My brother Packy (AKA Paul) used to tend bar at the Lil Dude in the 70's, I think he would tell stories about J.C. My brother was great story teller too. He passed away today that's why I was looking up the Lil Dude. R.I.P. Packy

Sure do miss the Country Bears. That bear they got in there now is a complete shmuck. With typical Disney brilliance, Disney ripped out the Country Bears attraction, then released a Country Bears movie-- *after* they'd ripped out the attraction (it's still in Disney World, I believe). Not surprisingly, the move was a flopperoo, but had it been a hit, there would have been no in-Park attraction to capitalize on its success-- great timing, guys.

Despite the crowds, inevitable screaming kids, and the harried, exhausted-looking staff, this actually is one of the better places to eat in the Park. They used to do a pretty good roast chicken (haven't been a few years) and, for what you get, the prices are no worse than any other sit-down place in DL (and a lot more reasonable than some, eg. the Blue Bayou), plus the interior decor is really quite attractive, if you take the time to look around. And they move a lot of people through, so you usually don't have to wait too long, even during crowded times.
  • Club 33, Threadkiller (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
@Ken Cummings: No, the private apartment that was being built for the Disney family (not just Walt) was to be where the so-called "Dream Suite" is now (formerly the much-missed Disney Gallery). See the note for that location. Club 33 was already in operation well before Walt passed.
  • Skyway to Tomorrowland (demolished), Threadkiller (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
It used to be a popular activity among some bratty young kids to spit on people in the crowds below as they soared past, fifty feet up. There are some things that have been removed from DL that I miss less than others.
  • Autopia, Threadkiller (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
Autopia won't be a survivor for much longer-- According to a July 2012 report on miceage.com, it's likely to be demolished soon in order to make room for something bigger, faster and noisier. And really, how can an old car-themed attraction, even if it's one of the last surviving Disneyland originals, be expected to compete against Carsland??
  • Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Threadkiller (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
According to Al Lutz at miceage.com, as of July 2012 TDA (Team Disney Anaheim) is seriously considering ripping out this ride (along with Autopia and Innoventions), as its put-through numbers are seriously small compared with what the corporados want to see: Only 800 people an hour, not enough to justify the expense, they feel (it's Disneyland's most expensive attraction to operate and maintain). So see it while you can, folks. PS: The old, pre-Nemo version of the ride, despite its occasional hokiness, was a lot better-- this one is way over-dependent on underwater video screens.
  • Storybookland Canal Boats, Threadkiller (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
Storybookland is one of the Park's most charming and delightful attractions (probably because it's one of the oldest). It's definitely not for the thrill-ride crowd. It's a sweet relic from a more innocent time, beautifully designed and executed, and calls to the inner child in all those with ears to hear. My loved one and I were deeply saddened when the magnificent Toad Hall was ripped out some years back and replaced with an incredibly crude and ugly version of what purports to be Aladdin's Castle, but for now the rest of Storybookland survives unblemished. Long may it do so (but given the moneygrubbing, biggerfasterlouder mentality of those now controlling DL, I fear its days may be numbered).
  • Carnation Café, Threadkiller (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
One of the best places to have breakfast or lunch in the Park, this is also one of its few eating places that's survived DL's many makeovers as it's become increasingly corporatized. Carnation is one of the Park's oldest sponsors.
  • Riverbelle Terrace, Threadkiller (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
According to various sources (notably the Birnbaum D-Land guidebook), this was Walt Disney's favorite place to eat in the park; he liked to breakfast on the terrace in the morning and watch the boat traffic on the Rivers of America. Of course, if Walt was to come back to life and drop by the Riverbelle for breakfast now, he'd probably drop dead all over again, this time in shock at the sight of what's been done to Tom Sawyer's Island-- along with the rest of his creation, which long since fell into the hands of corporados and greedheads for whom ever-increasing profit takes precedence over all other considerations...

THANK GOD for Ralph's! Bieng from the East Coast I didn't know where to buy groceries as there are no Acme's SuperFresh's or Giant's. I found 3 mexican supermarkets before finding Ralph's and thanked God when I did! Clean, fresh and stocked!

Visited during my vacation Aug 2011 - featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. I thought the Pizza was excellent, but the Shrimp Scampi was tasteless. The 4 shrimp it came with were pretty much flavorless but the Domery Sauce wasn't half bad. Probably wouldn't go back, but that's just my opinion.
