Stayed there with family visiting from Boston when our regular Suite/Boring hotel wasn’t ready :D My sister and I were amazed and just wanted to stay there!

My friends and I went to Harmony Park every Friday and Sunday (on Sunday they closed at 10pm) from 1962-1964. I met my first steady boyfriend there (ah, young love). We always parked my dad’s old ‘48’ Chevy across the road next to the railroad tracks. On Saturday’s we went to the Rendevouz Ballroom in Newport Beach!

Funny that the original Van Doren Rubber Company was located in Garden Grove, California, located on Burwood Ave. At the train tracks. Also never mentioned is the fact that because the train tracks were slightly raised it created a small hill where we would skateboard . . . out in front of the plant that would later produce the most iconic skateboard shoe on the planet. I don't think they were copying 'Randys' but probably thought they were producing deck shoes for the local recreational sailing enthusiasts.

I worked down the street from Lil' Dude in the 70s. I ate lunch there several times a week for years. They were the best tasting cheese burgers I ever had. Nobody comes close. I so wish there was a recipe...

My dad Carl Michels used to bar tend there when I was a kid in the late 70’s early 80’s. I have many fond memories of that place as he would take me before school and I would get breakfast, usually it was a burger made by Bob Lukey, not sure of the spelling but that what it sounds like. Some of the best burgers of my life. I spent a lot of time in there when I was a kid and my dads friends would bring their kids too and we would play pool for hours. That’s how I got so good!

Memories!! Yea, in the 70's, myself (Ent Dir) and a gal named Olivia (Ofc Mgr) work there for, I think, Jerry. I remember, the Bass Speaker system use the entire area under the huge Stage as it Speaker/Horn. Also as the MC for the shows I would sometimes Open for some of the Acts ... I remember, sort of, lip-syncing a stand-up routine a few nights Opening for Bill Medley. I didn't know Bill was watching, from just inside the kitchen and Medley critiqued my first night which made the next nights better. Before the 80's, I also Promoted with a friend, Fred Cisneros, and MC'd News Years Eve at the Grand Hotel with Bill Medley. I lived in Hollywood at the time and stayed down a few nights a week by trading with the small motel just next door to the Crescendo. Aah, the convenience, if ya know what I mean. I may have stayed thru the name change to the Cowboy ... on second thought, Nah.

For me, I take Broadway Street twice a day. To work and back. It is such a serene sight to see the Home Oil Company accompanied with the trains on the other side of the road, starting my day off with remembering the great historical parts of Anaheim that have been saved for my enjoyment Especially the beautiful Fig trees.
